OLED company Universal Display Corp (Universal Display Technology) exposed the Nintendo Switch Pro game console. The company’s recent investor phone recording mentioned the “new Switch Pro” and said that the game console uses an OLED screen.
Global CEO Steven V. Abramson said on the investor conference call, “…Nintendo has chosen an OLED screen for the new Switch Pro because OLED has the advantages of higher contrast and faster response speed.
Earlier, there were reports that Nintendo Switch 2 will use a 7-inch OLED screen produced by Samsung Display. Huanyu’s investor conference call also pointed out that “…Samsung Display announced that it will actively expand its OLED business in the gaming, smartphone and notebook computer markets.” Huanyu is a Samsung partner and the two parties have cooperation in OLED technology.

The investor call from Huanyu Corporation seems to be consistent with the previous Nintendo Switch Pro revelations. However, it is worth noting that during the recent Nintendo’s investor results conference call, an investor raised a question about which areas of R&D spending have increased, and Nintendo confirmed that it is currently investing in the “next platform”, perhaps Refers to Switch Pro.
The current global semiconductor shortage may greatly affect Nintendo’s future hardware manufacturing work, which may delay the Nintendo Switch Pro’s expected to launch in 2021 to 2022.
