Google is gradually pushing Chrome 90 major version updates to Windows 10, macOS, Linux and mobile platforms. It can be seen that many user-centric functional improvements have been introduced, supplemented by further improvements in security. Windows Latest points out that Chrome 90 is also the first browser version to enable secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) for all URL connections by default.
In Chrome 89 and earlier versions, if you enter the URL in the browser’s multi-functional address bar (Omnibox), the browser will first request (ping) the less secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP ), and then redirect to a more secure version of HTTPS.
After this update, Chrome 90 (the subsequent version) will request the secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) from the target website by default. Previously, Google Chrome browser has organized HTTP file transfer and downloading performed on HTTPS pages.

However, at the early stage of the policy change, only Google Chrome will automatically enable HTTPS URL loading by default. It is not clear when Microsoft Edge and other third-party browser developers based on the Chromium kernel will follow up.
In terms of new features, Chrome 90 followed Mozilla Firefox and introduced support for the AV1 open source video encoder, which can achieve high-quality video streaming across different platforms (or consume less data traffic under the same quality).
The second is the Window Naming function previously introduced on Microsoft Edge, which can help browser users who have opened multiple windows to easily group, search, and jump to specific tabs.
Then there are WebXR deep API, URL protocol setting program (to improve standard compliance), effect overlay, and many improvements in security, such as blocking HTTP/HTTPS through port 554 in order to mitigate NAT Slipstream 2.0 attacks / FTP server access. Interested friends, please pay attention to the official version of the Chrome 90 update in the next few days.
