Through years of hard work by the Huawei team, coupled with TSMC’s advanced manufacturing process, ARM’s latest public version architecture, and its own advanced baseband technology, Kirin chips have broken a “blood path” in recent years and achieved remarkable results. However, due to US sanctions, TSMC had to interrupt its foundry cooperation with Huawei in terms of advanced manufacturing processes.
According to agency statistics, in 2019, Apple contributed about 24% of TSMC’s revenue, followed by Huawei, with a 15% contribution. Last year, despite being affected by many unfavorable factors, Huawei still contributed 12.8% of its revenue share to TSMC, which is still second only to Apple.

Research says: TSMC will not get a cent from Huawei this year
However, in 2021, the situation will undergo important changes. TIN does not expect TSMC to get a penny of revenue from Huawei. In terms of customer contribution, AMD will be second only to Apple, and MediaTek again.
Public data shows that TSMC’s sales revenue from Huawei in 2019 is about 36 billion yuan, and it will reach 38.9 billion yuan in 2020.
Although the production capacity released by TSMC from Huawei has been divided up by other companies at the moment when semiconductors are short of cores, it is clear that if there were no accidents in international trade, TSMC would have had stronger growth momentum, so this is still a heavy loss.
